Attainment

Attainment measures approximately how close a child is to the age brackets of the Early Learning Aspects compared to their current age.

For example, if Elsa is aged 30 months and is assessed in the age band 22-36 months, then Elsa's attainment is on 'target'. If Elsa was aged 20 months then her attainment would be +2 months.

Every child is unique and develops in different areas at different speeds. It's crucial that the practioners knowledge of the individual child is taken into consideration when analysing these reports.

Progress & Thoroughness

Measuring a childs Attainment over time is their progress. Just like Attainment level, the Progress is measured by taking the number of months of progression between two dates.

For example, if Elsa is aged 30 months during Summer Term 1 and is assessed in the age band 16-26 months, then Elsa's attainment is -4 months. During Summer Term 2, Elsa is now two months older (32 months old) but is assessed in the age band 22-36 months so she has an 'on target' attainment of 0 Months. This means Elsa's Attainment has progressed by + 4 months
